MCI SLAPPED WITH LEGAL NOTICE

New Delhi:  With the DNB candidates, pursuing their degrees at Hospitals not recognized by MCI, severely disadvantaged with the amendments to the The Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations which got published in June 2017 , Medical council of India has been Slapped with a Legal notice from Sankalp Association of DNB doctors . The decision by MCI which made DNBs crippled  in Academic career created  headlines in the Medical Profession who criticized the move stating that on one hand, to meet the acute shortage of faculty the government is taking various steps by considering increasing the retirement age of medical faculty from 70 to 75 years and has also revised the faculty student ratio in medical colleges from 1:1 to 2:1 , yet it is imposing restrictions and limitations on  readily available qualified physicians and specialitst in the form of DNBs that can possibly join medical medical colleges , ease pressure on the medical education system in India and change the system for the better than it is currently. MCI through its amendment in the TEQ issued in June said that  a DNB degree holder from a non-MCI recognised institute would require 3 years of junior residency and 2 years of Senior residency, to be eligible for a teaching post of assistant professor, implying a clear 5 years of additional service if they dream to have a career in Medical colleges.
Sankalp Charitable trust which started its medical reforms wing in 2012 and successfully fought for NEET UG and PG exams for its implementation have joined hands with Association of DNB Doctors on this issue and are now  looking forward to DNB reforms which includes permanent DNB Equivalence with MD/MS. An Association of DNB doctors was thus formed under Sankalp which is the largest group of DNB doctors in the country and has over 3000 members currently and growing every day.  The sole motive of this Association is to end the problems being faced by DNBs which form a major part of qualified medical professionals and specialists in our country recognized by MOHFW as equivalent to MD/MS since 2009. Though MOHFW has clarified several times via notifications and letters to MCI that DNB is equivalent to MD/MS according to Gazette notification of 2012 but still MCI continues to follow its own policies of not recognizing DNB at par with MD/MS. There have been multiple instances where MCI inspectors have asked to demote the faculty because he is DNB and even done it retrospectively unlike as mentioned in the new TEQ notification. This witch hunting by MCI has triggered the movement that is being led by Sankalp Association of DNB Doctors who are committed to a permanent solution for problems of DNBs across the country.
